Our History.
Dato’ Chin Pek Soo
Our founder, the late Dato’ Chin Pek Soo had many interests in life. His many ventures into various fields faced setbacks before he settled with being a clerk for a Chinese mining company. It was here where he learnt the ropes of tin mining.
Armed with knowledge, passion, and direction, he started his first mine in Jelapang. His character was vouched for by his previous employer due to his hardworking and trustworthy nature, and that helped pave his road in his new venture. It was a time when there was fierce competition for mines. His move into mining was timely, as technology was advancing, and mining equipment were made available for more efficient and effective way of mining.
Dato’ Chin was an innovative person as well. When the competition for mines was fierce, he made pacts with the government to straighten rivers, gaining pockets of lands near riverbanks. During those times, only 1 out of 10 miners survives the business. He took over mines which are closing, evaluated the processes and came up with ways to improve mining and keep them operating. Such was his love for mining!
At the peak of his career, he had about 28 actively operating mines and owns a dredge in Phuket. He also took over the Société des Etains de Kinta (SEK), a French mining company in in the mid 1970’s.

Dato’ Chin Lean Keat & Dato' CHin Lean Choong
With the pockets of land acquired in various places, CPSH ventured into property development on a small scale. Housing development projects started in Grik in the 1980’s. This brought a small but steady stream of income which supported the group especially since mining took a downturn with the plunge of tin prices in 1985.
Dato’ Chin’s sons joined him in CPSH shortly after they completed their higher education and together, they ran the family business. CPSH was left with 1 tin mine in Puchong in 1991.
In 2005, mining operations were stopped and CPSH closed the mining chapter. Both his sons, Dato’ Chin Lean Choong & Dato’ Chin Lean Keat redirected the company’s effort to oil palm estate management and property development until now.
